Shaving Cream Technique
Sometimes you want a background that’s just a little bit MORE than normal. If so, you can create this fun, interesting background with just a few items. The shaving cream technique is an old favorite of mine which gives you different results every time.
Just a warning: It can be a bit messy, but the results are spectacular!
You need just a few supplies:
- Paper plate
- Paper towels
- Shaving cream
- A popsicle stick or something to stir with
- Glossy cardstock (I used a piece that measured 5 1/4 x 4)
Start by placing a large dollop of shaving cream on your paper plate.
Take your reinkers (I used 3 different colors: Pear Pizzazz, Merry Merlot and Crushed Curry) and place a few drops of each on your shaving cream.
Using a popsicle stick or other mixing tool, gently swirl the colors through the shaving cream. Be careful not to overmix or it will turn brown.
Lay your cardstock (glossy side facing down) on your shaving cream mixture and press. You may have to press it again in areas that didn’t cover the first time.
When all areas are covered, lift the cardstock off of the shaving cream and wipe with a paper towel (this is messy!)
Here are two backgrounds that I created with the same mixture of shaving cream and reinkers. See how they are so different?
And here is a card that I created using the background on the left and adding the Half Full Set by Stampin’ Up! This is one of my favorite stamp sets – so versatile and includes greetings for friendship and Christmas in one set!
All of the supplies used to create the card above with the shaving cream technique are shown below (except for household items).
